It starts and ends with you. From the minute you get up in the morning to last thing at night. Your decisions, mindset and goals carve out the life you are going to have. I’ve been working with clients since 2007, a lot of them come to me with anxiety and a wish to change their lives, I often remind them they have that complete power themselves but because of their beliefs or inability to see past today they don’t believe they have change or have things they want. Perhaps they were told as a child that was not for them. I spoke with a client recently who said if I had a genie I would live in the country in a cottage, I asked her why she needed the genie, and she said to make it happen, I asked her why she could not live in a cottage in the country and her answer was I don’t know. As a single person paying a mortgage there was no reason why she had chosen to live where she did, it was probably because it was what was available at the time but she did not think about what she would really like in a home. It’s the same with other things we would like a lot of them are accessible to us but we just never thought about it. If you do the same thing every day you get the same results. Its that simple, life goes on and everything stays the same. I often ask clients to do in inventory of their lives, making a list of things like, family, friends, relationships, finances, work, energy levels, happiness etc., and gauging what level of happiness they have with each, once you see it in black and white you often can see where you need to make adjustments. To feel energised we need to sleep well, eat well and get enough air and exercise. To change your life to feel more energised, I recommend going to bed at night around 10.30pm with a view to being asleep at 11pm, this ties in with the Chinese clock and how our bodys regulate as we sleep, then eating a nourishing breakfast, drinking water and moving daily. If you do this for about 3 weeks, you will definitely see results. Take this approach to any area in your life, what level of happiness does it gives me? What one change can I make, what would I really like? Write it all down and then decide to make a plan for change. Small steps, small changes and small adjustments. Consistency is key, if you promise yourself you will make a change and see a change you need to be consistent, and follow through. The thing is people loose momentum when results don’t come fast. I really feel we need to believe we deserve change, we deserve happiness and a life we enjoy living. How many times has a year gone by and you realise later that you never did something you said you would do. You are never too old and its never too late to have a happy childhood. One of my mentors said that to me, and he said apply that to you 20s, 30s and 40s. What’s stopping you from taking that trip, driving that route, or doing the training you never did years ago, nothing only beliefs. Often what we want is actually accessible but we are playing a story in our heads that we believe to be true and its just a story. A story can be rewritten at any time. I challenge you to take one area of your life and make some small accessible changes, be consistent and follow through. It’s a good idea to have an accountability buddy, someone who will call you out if you cut corners or deviate. I wanted to do up a room in my house for ages, the room was like it was taunting me every time I went into the room. It actually upset me to see it getting old and new marks coming on the carpet. So one day I sat down and made a phonecall and figured out how much it would cost me to do the floor. To be honest it was not as much as I had told myself it was. I then sat with my finances and looked at where I could put a little extra away, I was not paying childcare because of the pandemic, and so I then put that away for the floor, I also made sure I did not spend it foolishly by putting it away before I went buying anything else. I got the new floor and I will do the walls soon, it’s a small thing, but it make me happy. I planned it, followed through, was consistent and now I have my new floor. I’m applying this approach to my happiness too. Making a conscious effort to plan when I work, looking at my mindset every day and choosing good thoughts, just like I choose my clothes and my food, and making plans to meet people that energise me and feel like my tribe.
